The art of collaboration Posted: July 26, 2012 Updated: August 06, 2012

“The whole is greater than the sum of its parts” – Aristotle

What did this ancient philosopher know that modern day humans continue to prove? When united in a cause or goal, collaborating is powerful and effective.

OLHSA is proud to collaborate with over a hundred other nonprofit organizations, as well as businesses. Our unique blending brings together those with like goals and different resources. We partner daily to accomplish our mission of helping people and changing lives. Efforts include those to offer hunger and housing assistance, tax services, and referrals to other organizations when needed.

One of OLHSA’s proudest and most successful collaborations is with Gleaner’s Community Food Bank in Howell. Shared Harvest Pantry is the result of true collaboration with two private nonprofits getting together to streamline services to their clients, many of which overlapped in the beginning. With very different funding streams each agency was able to bring different food related programs to the community, and together under one roof efficiencies soared, the community was fed, and a precedent was set across the state. Now even more clients are helped by both agencies – OLHSA can provide services that Gleaner’s cannot and vice versa. The community is a better place for the collaboration that changed how one community deals with hunger.

This example is one of many. Think your organization can partner with OLHSA? Please reach out to us so we can discuss. We are all parts of incredible ‘wholes’ out there in the world.
