Head Start has Sweet Dreamzzz program Posted: March 05, 2015 Updated: March 05, 2015

Did you know that children ages 3 to 5 years old need 11 to 13 hours of sleep per night? OLHSA Head Start kids and parents learned this in January with the Sweet Dreamzzz program. Sweet Dreamzzz is an educational program for both parents and students and teaches positive sleeping habits. The program teaches topics such as the importance of a bed time routine and how many hours of sleep are required for each child based on their age. Sweet Dreamzzz also gives other tips such as engaging in a calming activity before bed like reading or coloring and it encourages parents and children to eat a healthy snack before bed, not junk food.

After the students are taught about what time they should go to bed, what they should eat, where they should sleep, how to brush their teeth and wash their face and learn some activities to do before bed, they received their own stuffed animals and practiced putting the stuffed animals to bed using an appropriate bed time routine.

Sweet Dreamzzz is a fun way to teach the children in our Head Start programs the proper sleep habits and we are happy we can pass along the knowledge to parents as well.
