OLHSA Head Start hosts Valentine’s Day-themed male involvement activity Posted: March 04, 2016 Updated: March 10, 2016

Over 100 families attended Head Start’s male involvement activity in February at its Pontiac location. Dads, brothers, grandfathers and other male family members dressed up in ties and the preschoolers were decked out in beautiful dresses and bow ties. During the event families enjoyed dinner, took pictures in the photo booth, completed Valentine’s Day art projects, showed off their dance moves and enjoyed their time together. The event gave father figures the opportunity to participate in an educational and social activity not only with their children, but with their peers.  It has been found that children who have active fathers/father figures in early childhood are more likely to have deeper emotional connections to both parents, heightened curiosity, willingness to learn and explore, and have higher verbal skills and academic motivation. The event was a huge success and Head Start hopes to have more like it in the future.
