OLHSA helps local residents improve their job security Posted: November 23, 2015

OLHSA is currently offering services to help local residents overcome employment barriers and see career success. The increase in available services is made possible by grant funding and OLHSA’s official designation as Community Ventures service provider for Pontiac via the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC).

As the Community Ventures service provider for Pontiac, OLHSA will eliminate employability challenges and encourage professional growth. Obstacles to employment will be removed through help with transportation, child care and obtaining professional attire or uniforms. Participants will also be given one-on-one mentoring that includes career coaching, soft skills training and hard skills training.

To be eligible for Community Ventures a person must be a Pontiac resident with a barrier to employment, such as being below the poverty line, an ex-offender or a person with a disability.  Community Ventures partners with a network of talent providers such as Michigan Works, Department of Health and Human Services, and local non-profits to identify eligible program participants. These participants then have an opportunity to be connected to employment with a Community Venture partner company.
