OLHSA works to end homelessness among veteran families Posted: March 05, 2015 Updated: March 06, 2015

Harold from Rochester Hills is a disabled veteran that is on dialysis and only has Social Security Disability to live on. Through OLHSA’s Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program we were able to help him get into a new apartment, which was much more rent-reasonable for him, by providing a security deposit and, so far, 3 months of rent payment through the SSVF program.  OLHSA was also able to provide him with utility assistance, so he was able to avoid shut-off.

We are proud of success stories like Harold’s and hope to create more.  Are you a veteran who is currently in need of housing assistance? OLHSA’s SSVF program provides housing services for veterans that are currently homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Other assistance may include moving expenses, utility assistance, child care and minor car repair. The program assists veteran families in Genesee, Ingham, Livingston, Macomb, Oakland, Shiawassee and Washtenaw Counties.

In 2014, OLHSA’s SSVF program is proud to have served over 80 veteran households and continues to serve more each year. Looking for more information about our program? Please call 517-546-8500 or email veterans@olhsa.org.
